Der Poeck: Exploring Emotion Through Color and Abstraction

Creativity has accompanied Der Poeck since childhood. When he was ten years old, his mother introduced him to drawing, planting the first seeds of a lifelong artistic journey. Although he developed an early love for line and form, his exploration of color came much later. His father’s enthusiasm for oil painting during the 1990s quietly influenced his perspective, even though he eventually stepped away from painting to devote his time to work and raising a family. Years later, those early memories inspired Der Poeck to begin painting in 2010. As a self-taught artist, he gradually shaped his own artistic voice through independent study, experimentation, and the philosophical writings of Carl Gustav Jung. Jung’s ideas about the unconscious, symbolism, and psychological growth became an important source of inspiration, encouraging him to see painting as a journey of self-discovery rather than simply a visual practice. Today, his abstract paintings invite viewers to experience spaces filled with quiet emotion, subtle movement, and contemplative beauty.

    Healing Pictures / Series 1

Healing Pictures / Series 1 explores the expressive possibilities of abstraction through color, atmosphere, and layered texture. Rather than depicting recognizable subjects, Der Poeck creates compositions that communicate through feeling, encouraging viewers to engage with the paintings on an intuitive and emotional level. Every canvas unfolds gradually, revealing shifting relationships between color, light, and form that reward slow observation.

One of the most striking features of the series is its sophisticated color palette. Gentle violets, blush pinks, soft blues, pale greens, warm earth tones, and hints of gold merge effortlessly into one another, creating compositions that appear luminous and weightless. Instead of separating colors with bold outlines or rigid structures, Der Poeck allows them to flow naturally, producing smooth transitions that create a soothing visual rhythm. The result is an atmosphere that feels calm, open, and constantly evolving.

Texture further enriches each composition. Thin washes of paint are layered repeatedly, creating surfaces that possess remarkable depth while remaining delicate and light. Some passages seem almost transparent, while others appear denser and more tactile, giving the paintings a sense of movement that shifts as light changes across the surface. This careful layering creates an impression of depth without relying on conventional perspective, allowing the compositions to feel expansive and immersive.

Although entirely non-representational, the paintings naturally invite associations with the natural world. Their flowing forms may suggest blossoms opening, clouds drifting across the sky, reflections on water, or distant cosmic landscapes. These visual references remain intentionally ambiguous, encouraging every viewer to discover personal meanings shaped by individual experiences and emotions. Rather than directing interpretation, the paintings create space for imagination to unfold freely.

The title Healing Pictures reflects the spirit of the series. Instead of portraying healing through literal imagery, Der Poeck creates environments that foster calmness, balance, and quiet contemplation. Gentle harmonies of color and subtle shifts in texture establish an atmosphere that encourages viewers to slow down and reconnect with their inner thoughts. The paintings become places of reflection where emotional responses emerge naturally without explanation or instruction.

This contemplative approach reflects the lasting influence of Carl Gustav Jung on Der Poeck’s creative philosophy. Jung believed that visual imagery could reveal dimensions of the human psyche beyond the reach of language. Inspired by this perspective, Der Poeck avoids fixed symbolism, allowing his abstract forms to remain open and emotionally accessible. His paintings become visual experiences that encourage introspection, giving viewers the freedom to engage with their own memories, emotions, and subconscious associations.

While connected by a shared visual language, each painting within Healing Pictures / Series 1 possesses its own distinct emotional atmosphere. One composition radiates warmth through luminous pinks and gentle purples, creating a sense of comfort and optimism. Another combines softer earth tones with cool blues to evoke stillness and quiet reflection. A third introduces vivid reds alongside vibrant turquoise, bringing renewed energy while maintaining the series’ overall sense of balance. Together, these works demonstrate Der Poeck’s ability to use color as an expressive tool capable of communicating subtle emotional variations.

A compelling quality of the series is the balance between intuitive freedom and thoughtful composition. The flowing forms appear spontaneous, yet every transition of color, area of light, and textured surface feels carefully considered. Bright passages naturally attract the eye before leading into quieter sections, creating a visual rhythm that feels effortless without becoming chaotic.

Perhaps the greatest achievement of Healing Pictures / Series 1 is its openness. These paintings do not require viewers to understand artistic theories or symbolic systems. Instead, they offer an inviting space where observation, emotion, and imagination become equally important. Every encounter with the work can reveal something different, making the viewing experience deeply personal and continually rewarding.

Through sensitive layering, harmonious color relationships, and intuitive abstraction, Der Poeck creates paintings that encourage reflection, stillness, and emotional awareness. Healing Pictures / Series 1 demonstrates the ability of abstract art to communicate through atmosphere rather than representation, offering viewers a quiet reminder that color and form alone can become powerful vehicles for contemplation, renewal, and inner balance.
